All changes in prices in Undercurrent News' week 5 (Jan. 27 - Feb. 02) US shrimp wholesale price assessments focused on Latin-origin product but were again mixed by type. Waning demand for shell-on led to discounting but targeted strength in peeled and deveined continued.
Asian origin white and black tiger shrimp traded at previously listed levels and trading channels maintained.
Argentine red shrimp was also in general balance between supply and demand.

White shrimp -- Latin origin
There was continued broad-based weakness across most sized shell-on products, both blocks and head-on. Demand in the United States has lagged at a time there has been more supply available.
Let's take a look at the latter first. We have continued to talk about an uptick in containers hitting in early 2025. And with China slowing imports from Ecuador, there is competitiveness at source leading importers to lower prices in anticipation of further reductions.
But it's the demand side that has recently faltered in the face of this. It is reported that foodservice operators are losing workers with the ability to peel shrimp and have lowered purchase activity for non-value added product
But that led to some further gains in the 21-25 and 26-30 counts peeled and deveined, tail-off.
White shrimp -- Asian origin
While there were no changes this week, the themes set out in Latin origin product seem to be playing out as well. There is continued interest in cooked and peeled, with trades trending towards the top end of the quotes. Pricing on blocks, however, are nearing the lower end.
Black tiger shrimp
Supply and demand are in general balance here and pricing relatively stable. Ongoing replacement issues continue to surface.
Argentine red shrimp
The inshore season has ended early with reports of smaller sized shrimp the norm. With an already balanced position currently, this could hamper processor offerings, especially for value-added product. Prices are steady but inventory held with confidence.
