Officers with the the US state of New York's Department of Environmental Conservation say they recently conducted impromptu inspections at a handful of fish markets that resulted in the seizure of undersized lobsters for sale.
The officers discovered 37 undersized lobsters for sale when they visited two stores in the Elmhurst area of Queens on Jan. 26, according to the agency. They also reported finding clams that were "placed in water without a valid permit and unlawfully possessed tautog tags."

The following day, additional inspections in Kings County resulted in the discovery of another 60 undersized lobsters for sale, the agency said.
The undersized lobsters were seized and the agency issued tickets for violations to the businesses, as lobsters must be between 3 ⅜ and 5 ¼ inches to be legally possessed in New York.
