Several new signatories have joined NGO The Nature Conservancy (TNC)'s sustainable seafood initiative, the Tuna Transparency Pledge, said TNC CEO Jennifer Morris.
The pledge to tackle illegal and unsustainable fishing practices within the tuna industry was launched in April 2024. Retail giants Walmart and Albertsons Companies, supplier Thai Union Group, and countries such as Belize and the Federated States of Micronesia signed on at the outset.
Now retailer Carrefour, North American suppliers Aramark, Culimer USA and Lusamerica Foods, and Marshall Islands supplier Pacific Island Tuna Provisions (in which TNC is a partner) have joined.
"Together, some of the largest retailers, suppliers, and foodservice companies in the world have committed to advancing 100% on-the-water monitoring across all industrial tuna fishing vessels within their supply chains or jurisdictions by 2027," said Morris in a LinkedIn post.
