A new advocacy group, the Maine Farmed Seafood Coalition, was established by the Maine Aquaculture Association (MAA) to support Maine's aquaculture sector.
MAA announced the coalition's launch on LinkedIn on Thursday (March 13). It said it aims to unite stakeholders to promote local seafood and address industry challenges.
MAA emphasized the importance of a coordinated effort to share the benefits of Maine's aquaculture while fostering growth. Key founding members include FocusMaine, an organization founded to drive economic growth and job creation in high-potential industries, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), which advocates for sustainable aquaculture practices.
Coastal Enterprises, Inc (CEI), a Maine-based organization focused on rural business development and sustainable practices, is also a founding member, as is the Island Institute, a nonprofit supporting Maine's coastal communities and marine economic solutions.
