The US shrimp wholesale price assessments collected by Undercurrent News in week 12 (March 17-23) and published on Wednesday (March 19) are mostly stable with cautious optimism following Seafood Expo North America this week in Boston, Massachusetts.
Given its current value, shrimp is positioned well against other seafood species and proteins as a whole and that was the general consensus at the show. Now it's up to the industry, with the official campaign launch of of the Global Shrimp Council to help drive interest.
With Lent this year being late compared to last, the official retail numbers show a massive decline, but sellers report that business in the back part of Q1 is picking up, driving the above sentiment [...]
