Three Ecuadorian shrimp hatcheries have been recognized for their commitment to sustainable larval production.
Biogemar, Omarsa Mar Bravo, and Promarisco Chanduy received recognition at AquaExpo Santa Elena 2025 after achieving 100% compliance with standards set by the "Scale Up" program.
Developed by the Ecuador-based Sustainable Shrimp Partnership, which requires Aquaculture Stewardship Council certification from its members, and Ecuador's National Chamber of Aquaculture (CNA), the initiative aligns hatchery processes with environmental and social criteria.
The Scale Up program provides training, audits, and support to implement operational improvements across the sector.
"These hatcheries prove sustainability is a competitive advantage," said Jose Antonio Camposano, CNA executive president.
