The US state of New York's Department of Environmental Conservation's (DEC) Division of Law Enforcement reports in a press release to have seized 168 undersized North American lobsters found during an inspection of a wholesale seafood dealer in the Bronx, one of New York City's five boroughs.
The crackdown was done in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Marine Fisheries Service.
While the Bronx wholesaler has not been identified, the DEC said that on March 13 it issued the business owner a notice of violation and confiscated the undersized shellfish. The lobsters were then donated to Bowery Mission in Manhattan, a non-profit that helps provide hot meals to New Yorkers in need.

The latest update from DEC comes about a month after officers seized an additional 97 undersized lobsters from two other wholesalers in the state, as reported by Undercurrent News. During that inspection officers also found clams that had been "placed in water without a valid permit and unlawfully possessed tautog tags."
