Salmon Evolution, one of the most modern land-based salmon farms in the world, has had a mostly successful start to its 7,900 metric ton a year facility in Indra Havoy, Norway. The company has harvested several batches of fish, and was readying another with healthy Atlantic salmon weighing over 4 kilograms each during a recent Undercurrent News visit.
The company communicated Oct. 2 that is approaching steady state harvest volumes by year end. Salmon Evolution is already planning an expansion at the same site that will double capacity, using a novel hybrid approach that combines recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) technology with some flow through water.

Undercurrent News visited Dutch Harbor near the end of the pollock B season, as processors – including Maruha Nichiro’s Westward Seafoods and Alyeska Seafoods, and UniSea, which is the one of largest subsidiaries of Nissui Corporation – were turning Bering Sea pollock into filets, surimi, fish meal, and fish oil.

AguaGen aims to achieve pathogen free status recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH) by 2025 to sell pathogen free Atlantic salmon eggs to international markets. The partial recirculation facility was designed by Artec Aqua.
