Breeding wild salmon in the Pacific Northwest
Hatcheries play a huge role in America's wild salmon fisheries, accounting for 90% of salmon caught in the Pacific Northwest according to NOAA.
The practice has helped preserve the stocks of wild salmon in the US, in part thanks to higher survival rates of the eggs to the fry stage.
