Chinese e-commerce retailer Gfresh opens shopfront presence in Shanghai

Gfresh, a dedicated seafood e-commerce retailer in China, has built its first shopfront presence in Shanghai. The company is promoting online delivery of Atlantic salmon fillets to urban areas of China's most populous city.

Gfresh has emerged as major dedicated seafood e-commerce retailer that is supplying produce from around the world to China’s Tier 1 cities. As part of that effort they have built a shopfront presence in an exclusive Shanghai mall.

The store is designed to showcase Gfresh’s offerings. China is no exception to the poke craze and there are several offerings with Atlantic salmon from Chile. Gfresh says that Atlantic salmon is it’s most popular product.

Most Atlantic salmon in China is consumed in a Japanese sashimi style. Here, Gfresh offer several sashimi trays to the Shanghai lunch crowd

Fresh seaweed is also a popular snack and Gfresh serves seaweed salads dotted with chilli flakes. China grows more seaweed in tonnage terms than any other type of seafood.

A ubiquitous feature of China seafood in traditional markets is live fish and shellfish. Here’s Gfresh keeps fresh lobsters in tanks.

The core component of Gfresh’s product offering is the online delivery of seafood. Founder Anthony Wan says that the Gfresh app allows for more information to be displayed about a particular product than what goes on traditional packaging in a supermarket.

Gfresh is experimenting with a group online purchasing option for Atlantic salmon fillet. In this feature a user can buy Atlantic salmon fillet for family and friends and get a discount on his or her delivery. The scheme is being pilot tested in Shanghai only.

Customers can follow up on their order through a chat system with a customer representative.
