As part of the event, journalists were shown onboard Sapmer’s sixth tuna freezer purse-seiner, Belle Rive, which was moored in Port-Louis after returning from its first fishing trip.
This was followed by a tour of the new plant, Tuna Processing Services. Opened in July 2013, the factory is Sapmer's first wholly owned plant in Mauritius and will have a capacity to process 21,000 metric tons of raw material a year as of January 2014. Attached to the plant is a 2,500-metric ton coldstorage, where tuna is kept at minus 40 degrees Celcius.
