SBH Marine’s shrimp farm and seafood processing plant in Malaysia
SBH Marine opened the gate of its shrimp farm in Kuala Gula, Malaysia, and its shrimp and cephalopod processing plant in Kuala Kurau to Undercurrent News in early April 2015.
Here is a behind-the-scenes photo tour.
The company, which supplies frozen shrimp and cephalopods to markets in the European Union, Asia and Australia, built the 150-acre farm in 2012 to help it maintain needed supply as other farmers across Malaysia and other parts of southeast Asia were seeing their crops decimated by early mortality syndrome.
The 58-pond farm uses crab fences and probiotics and this year may be able to produce 1,000 metric tons of shrimp.
The company is talking with the government about securing 400 additional acres to take production to 3,000t-4,000t per year.
