Tour a salmon farm – Grieg Seafood Hjaltland
Grieg Seafood Hjaltland (GSH) is the Shetland-based UK branch of Norwegian salmon firm Grieg Seafood, and the largest producer on the island. It owns 48 sites spread across seven clusters, with farms offshore in open sea.
In its second quarter 2013 results Grieg announced the managing director of its Shetland operation, Michael Stark, was stepping down after 14 years. The operation has suffered lately from disease problems, particularly amoeba gill disease last year.
However, GSH continues to grow, with part of the operations of a new £6 million hatchery, one of the largest in the UK, currently underway.
