The Scoular Company is seeking a Merchandiser to join our established International Fishmeal Business in the High Nutritional Value Proteins (HNVP) business unit. This dynamic business is sourcing a variety of highly nutritional marine proteins and servicing the international feed companies heavily focused on Aquaculture. Aquaculture is the fastest growing agriculture feed sector globally.
The Merchandiser will be primarily responsible for all aspects involved in the International Fishmeal business. This includes oversight of product marketing and execution functions of the business unit. The Merchandiser will need to understand global economics and be able to navigate through all transportation, documentation and country requirements/restrictions while initiating new customer and supplier contact. The Merchandiser is responsible for bringing new business to closure, along with maintaining and growing established customers and suppliers. The Merchandiser will be responsible for understanding the company's risk management strategies while assisting and driving the business unit operational efficiency.
Specific Responsibilities
- Manage select International suppliers and buyers of Fishmeal
- Manage relationship with freight providers and negotiate to maintain market freight rates
- Support administrative functions: contract management, accounting, financial reporting, cash mgmt.,
- Identify and develop new service, supplier and customer partners
- Manage export sales via container and vessel
- Manage foreign risk associated global and economical events
- Assist in management of established fishmeal business.
- Establish market values for Fishmeal
- Foreign travel required
- Calculate and report P&L results of business activity
Job Responsibilities
- Responsible for daily contact of customers and suppliers to generate leads, bids, offers, along with the oversight of logistical functions. The position will bring new business to closure, while maintaining and growing the business unit’s established customers. This will require constant communication with Business Unit Manager on positions, freight variance and current market opinions on each commodity.
- Develop and demonstrate an operational understanding of flat price position limits and manage risk within management policies. Keep and reconcile the position for the business unit to which he or she is assigned. Develop and demonstrate an understanding positioning and executes profitable spread.
- Assist the Business Unit Manager in the preparation of weekly P&L estimates and provide useful feedback to the Business Unit Manager which will help the manager to grow the business and improve efficiency.
- The Merchandiser will be responsible to aid the Merchandiser Assistants in problem solving and in providing customer service, as needed. This will require knowledge and understanding of system reports and operational processes. The Merchandiser will make suggestions for improving operational efficiency and, as needed, will be responsible to implement recommended change.
- Participate in group marketing meetings, to exchange information, build teamwork, develop programs and provide an environment that nurtures creativity and fosters growth.
- The Merchandiser will assist in any other miscellaneous and/or administrative tasks based on current needs of the manager.
Minimum Qualifications
- College degree with a business / related field or equivalent industry experience
- Minimum 1-2 years of Business or corporate experience
- Must possess good communication, problem solving and sales skills
- Strong mathematical and analytical ability
- Customer service skills and positive, persuasive, and credible attitude
- Demonstrated PC literacy and ability to utilize standard office systems
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Preferred at least 1-2 year of agricultural industry experience
- Preferred some international sales/ merchandising
