Job description

The Program Coordinator, under the supervision of the Seafood Technical Director, will support Seafood Technical program projects in matters of seafood science, safety, quality, nutrition, utilization, and environmental issues that are resources for all of ASMI’s programs.

The position will also support administration and programmatic needs for the Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) sustainability certification program and take direction from RFM contractors. This position will be responsible to interact with a cross section of ASMI staff, contractors, Alaska Seafood industry members, companies within the seafood supply chain, and non-governmental organizations.

Essential Functions:

1.       Responsible for coordinating projects (design, manage and conduct) to improve seafood quality practices and to promote a quality image for Alaska Seafood.

2.       Schedule, organize, and take minutes for the seafood technical, RFM, and Fisheries Standard Committee (FSC) meetings (draft agenda, assemble packets, minutes etc.).

3.       Supply RFM, sustainability, and technical promotional materials to industry members, companies, advertising agencies and programs.

4.       Produce and manage design and content development of seafood technical materials. This could include website, publications and other outreach and training materials both for external stakeholders and industry.

5.       Compile information from RFM, sustainability and technical programs for department and industry updates.

6.       Prepare and deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences.

7.       Work with the RFM contract team and committee members to coordinate outreach efforts and other RFM objectives as identified.

8.       Work with the ASMI programs to find collaboration opportunities for the technical and RFM programs.

9.       Maintain and update RFM program files.

10.   Assist with electronic filing and tracking of Alaska RFM chain of custody documents.

11.   Assist ASMI programs with special projects and fulfill other duties as assigned.

Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1.       Strong communication skills and the ability to synthesize scientific information into industry-focused and consumer conscious messaging to a wide range of audiences.

2.       Knowledge of the Alaska Seafood industry

3.       Ability to finish projects in a timely manner and multi-task

4.       Strong writing, editing and analytical skills

5.       Ability to work independently and with limited supervision

6.       Self-directed and motivated team player

7.       Ability to prioritize and work under tight deadlines with quick turn-around

8.       Strong organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.

9.       Knowledge of seafood nutrition, safety and regulations preferred but not required

10.   Knowledge of seafood certification landscape and sustainable seafood movement preferred but not required

11.   Strong communication skills and the ability to synthesize scientific information

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor of Science degree in fisheries, biology, or a related field from an accredited college and a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in a professional setting coordinating projects. Other degree fields will be considered if they are relevant to the position.

State of Alaska Executive Exempt (XE) range 16 wage and benefits
