Job description
Since starting in late 2015, Ocean Matters has quickly become the largest producer of farmed Lumpfish in the United Kingdom with current annual production of around 2 million deployable fish per year. We operate a state-of-the-art marine recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) in North Wales and are seeking an energetic Senior Technician to strengthen our team.
The successful candidate must have a strong technical aquaculture background, with a minimum of two years’ experience in hatchery operations. Previous knowledge of larval fish husbandry is critical to the role, with experience of live-feed production also key. Large parts of the role will revolve around performing daily husbandry tasks alongside operators, but also ensuring all business standards and administrative practices are followed. A thorough knowledge of RAS and complex interactions within them is desired. Education to degree level in a relevant marine or aquaculture-based subject is desired.
Attention to detail and a strong drive for continuous improvement in the business is very important, not only meeting existing standards but delivering above them at all times. The ideal candidate should be an effective communicator, able to motivate and encourage the Production Team.
You will report to the Production Manager and will be expected to deliver consistent standards in fish production performance as well as improve efficiencies in the business as we increase production over the coming months.
Specific Responsibilities of the role:
•Responsible for satisfactorily completing allocated farm work on daily basis and ensuring that Hatchery Operatives in same area are completing their tasks to required standards
•Responsible for accurately entering farm data into information systems used to manage fish husbandry, growth and harvesting
•Accountable for all farm activities during overnight duty
•Supervise farm activity on daily basis and duty weekends, including sign-off of Daily Check Sheets
•Responsible for identifying feed and consumable order requirements from inventory checks
•Undertake any other reasonable task as required from time to time, including project work and data analysis.
Please submit your CV with a covering letter to Dan Philips, Production Manager no later than 27th August 2018.
