We are seeking a Director of Freshwater Operations for Kelly Cove Salmon (KCS) to work out of our Johnson Lake Hatchery in Pennfield, New Brunswick, Canada. This division of Cooke Aquaculture is responsible for the management of our internal broodstock management program and the production of approximately 15 million Atlantic Salmon smolt.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer for Cooke, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to leadership in the following:

  • Operational leadership to the freshwater team (approximately 20 hatcheries between Atlantic Canada and Maine, USA).
  • Short term and long term operational and CAPEX plans.
  • Lead the coordination and logistics of Smolt transfer.
  • Leading and execution of Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Forecasting and communicating the needs of the business to various support and service companies.
  • Knowledgeable in both flow through and recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).
  • Reporting on key biological performance indicators.
  • Reporting on key financial performance indicators.
  • Responsible in providing industry leadership and may be required to sit on industry association boards from time to time.
  • In a team environment, must have the ability to understand and interpret complex fish farming business dynamics including government regulation, environmental monitoring, new site development processes, NGO interactions, etc.
  • Understanding and commitment to the requirements of various industry certification schemes (e.g., BAP).
  • Corporate support and structure is provided in the areas of HR, Feed Management, Nutrition, Health and Safety, Fish Health, R&D, Maintenance, engineering, Logistics, Communications and Public Relations, Process Improvement, Legal, Accounting and Business management.
  • May be called upon to support global land-based farming operations from time to time.

To be considered for this role you will bring a minimum of 10 years related experience in aquaculture and a deep knowledge of modern recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS). A master’s degree in a related study would be considered an asset.
